I can’t believe it’s already time for another edition of #sohotrightnow. Read on for a list of what I’m loving this month in the hopes that you’ll find something new you’ll love too. You’re welcome.
1. Fried Cauliflower at Mamnoon–
Holy.Food.Gasm. If you’re a Seattle local and haven’t already checked out Mamnoon yet, go now and and get ready for one hell of a ride. Not only is the ambiance super chic and outgoing, but the food at this modern- middle-eastern inspired restaurant is extremely inventive, flavorful and vegan-friendly. Not to be missed is the Fried Cauliflower drizzled in Tahini Sauce (vegan and gluten-free) which is unlike anything you’ve ever tasted in a really, REALLY good way.
I’ve been making this Pumpkin Spice Baked Oatmeal pretty much every weekend, and MLB has no cause for complaint. In fact he loves this updated version of an old classic and I’m guessing you will too. I used gluten-free oats, vanilla hemp milk and subbed dried cranberries and raisins for the apple. Serve with more hemp milk and maple syrup drizzled on top along with a generous spoonful of earth balance. Healthy, filling, energy-sustaining and mother-effing delicious- all the components of a well-balanced breakfast. Mom would be proud.
Thrive, the leading organic, plant-based raw foods restaurant in the Northwest is offering up ridiculously affordable ($35) cooking classes where they share how to make healthy food taste delicious and send you off with some of their recipes to boot. I took the “Living Thanksgiving” class and in two hours learned how to make an entire Thanksgiving spread from stuffing and raw garlic mashed potatoes (unbelievable) to a pumpkin cheesecake with cinnamon whipped cream that tasted JUST like the real thing. If you’re interested in learning more about how to cook plant-based, whole foods, these classes are a fantastic way to get your feet wet.
Those who know me know I HAVE to have a piece of dark chocolate every night. Theo’s organic and fair-trade chocolate tops my list, and I get especially excited for their holiday collection. Try the Nutcracker Brittle which is made of 70% dark chocolate and filled with almonds, hazelnuts and buttery toffee.
Crispy, slightly sweet, slightly spicy morsels of Nature’s crack- now this is one addiction that’s actually good for you. Serve up on Thanksgiving, just be sure to make plenty because one serving is never enough.
My fave juicebar just opened it’s new cafe on Capitol Hill with a plethora of yummy juices, smoothies and healthy eats on the menu. Try the R.P.P juice with red pepper, pineapple, coconut and key lime. Their smoky black eyed pea and kale soup and beet risotto also look divine.
I’ve yet to have a better vegan mac n’ cheese than Plum Bistro’s. However this rendition is a close second. I’ve made it at least twice this month and the MLB AND his entire family loved it (even his Grandma, who claims to hate mac n’ cheese). I used Tinkyada Brown Rice Noodles and amaranth flour to make gluten-free and top it with Daiya cheddar cheese before sticking it under the broiler. Serve with my crispy roasted brussel sprouts and indulge in the healthiest, tastiest comfort food ever.
A blend of coconut and almond milk, sugar and spices steamed to order and served with espresso and nutmeg. Sounds good right? Yeah, it tastes good too.
The odds will be ever in your favor when you see this movie… that you’ll like it. Even better than the first, and more delicious eye candy to boot #teampeta.
As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m far from crafty. But if I were, I’d make a chalkboard serving tray- so tres chic! Then I’d pile it with fruit, gluten-free crackers and vegan cheese from Punk Rawk Labs. #mindblown
